Omaha Symphony Tickets tickets

The Omaha Symphony orchestra is a long-running organization that performs hundreds of times per year. They primarily put on events near their Omaha, Nebraska home, although they occasionally travel farther afield. The concert hall fills with marvelous classics, contemporary and pop music when they bring out their instruments and begin playing.

Omaha Symphony Tickets history

The Omaha Symphony started in 1921, established by Henry Cox. Before this time, the only organized orchestras the region had were a few civic ones. The Omaha Symphony represented an opportunity to become a well-known name in the musical world.

Sandor Harmati, a famous conductor, lead the orchestra shortly after its establishment, in 1925 and 1926. Joseph Littau stepped in in 1930 to help this group grow. The Omaha Symphony was temporarily suspended during the Great Depression, but in 1936 it started to put on shows once again. World War II caused another interruption, but when it started back in 1947 under Richard Duncan, it has been going strong ever since.

Many famed conductors have stood at the podium throughout the Symphony's history, including Joseph Levine, Yuri Krasnapolsky, Thomas Briccetti, Victor Yampolsky and Thomas Wilkins taking up the baton.

The Omaha Symphony orchestra was considered to reach its designation as a true professional orchestra in 1975 when it brought together a group of 30 full-time professional musicians. Today, the core performer group is approximately 40 to 45 players, with part-time and guest musicians coming in for various performances.

Omaha Symphony Tickets performances

An Omaha Symphony ticket opens up many types of performances to attendees. Both regularly running series and one-off performances make up the orchestra's schedule.

MasterWorks focuses on the classics, with powerful performances of classical music that draws in crowds young and old. SymphonyPops is aimed at bringing in a younger audience than the typical orchestra-lover, with symphonic versions of favorite songs.

Movie Music and Family performances offer another great introduction to orchestral concerts. Soundtracks of currently running films and popular movies fill the room, with arrangements that make excellent use of the talent that's on stage.

They also perform at schools through the Concerts for Youth and Celebrate Creativity programs, which helps promote music and the arts across Nebraska and the surrounding region.

The Omaha Symphony Conductors Symposium is another unique event held by this organization. They connect up and coming conductors with world-famous masters of the craft, enabling both parties to learn from each other for professional and artistic development purposes. They also fund the creation of new music so that some pieces may be heard for the first time during the Omaha Symphony's shows.
