What is some of the history behind the NWA?

The NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship is the longest-running event of its kind in the world, and a title held by numerous champions over the years, including Ric Flair, Buddy Rogers, Lou Thesz, Ricky Steamboat, The Great Muta and AJ Styles. Initially, the National Wrestling Alliance started as a governing body that sanctioned various NWA championships and served as a group of independent professional wrestling promotions. Before the 1960s, the NWA was the only governing body serving the professional wrestling community. Today, the NWA acts as an independent professional wrestling promoter and not as a governing body, as it had in the past.

What are some notable events in recent NWA Wrestling history?

Billy Corgan, lead singer of the rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, purchased the NWA in 2017 and began producing NWA events on live television and pay-per-view. Corgan noted that the NWA would operate as a single organization going forward instead of having licensed affiliates. In 2018, the NWA launched a series on YouTube called Ten Pounds of Gold that featured multi-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis. The NWA has recently forged relationships with Championship Wrestling From Hollywood, Tried-N-True Pro Wresting and Ring of Honor. It was announced during the NWA 70th Anniversary Show in 2018 that the NWA would be bringing back the Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup. This is a tag team tournament held in conjunction with Jim Crockett Promotions. Corgan also announced that the NWA would begin hosting Pop Up events that would be presented in conjunction with other wrestling promotions.
