BERT KREISCHER: PERMISSION TO PARTY
NRG Arena is a 350,000 square foot sports center in the Houston, Texas, NRG Park area. Built in 1974 as the Astroarena, it's been host to a ton of different events and concerts over its many years of service.
GOT7
, the Houston Hotshots, the Houston Lightning and the
Rice Owls
are a few of the events that have taken place there. The arena is also home of the Houston Comets during their final season. Some local high schools use it to hold their graduation ceremonies. With so many things going on, be sure to snag your tickets for NRG Arena events at StubHub.
On the first floor is the main arena with 24,000 square feet, and its seating capacity is 8,500.
NRG Arena and the other facilities in NRG Park aim to be wheelchair and disability accessible in every way possible. NRG Arena seating can be accessed via wheelchair with ease as wheelchair-accessible turnstiles and powered doors are available in many areas. Wheelchair seating is available on every level of the Arena as well. For the hearing impaired, audio enhancement devices can be obtained with a week's advance notice. ASL interpreters can also be on hand with two weeks' notice.
The NRG Arena welcomes guests of all ages. Children ages 2 and older will need a ticket in order to gain entry to an event, but those younger than 2 are usually allowed in free (certain exceptions do apply).
There are plenty of food options for those attending an event at NRG Arena. Your options include classic choices like nachos, corn dogs, sandwiches, barbecue, candy and plenty more. As for drinks, you have your pick of things like soft drinks, bottled water and beer. Outside food and drink are strictly prohibited save for certain medical exemptions. Tailgating is allowed, but outside food or drink cannot be taken into the venue.
Parking is handled on a first come, first served basis. Lots open four hours prior to an event, overnight parking being prohibited. Each parking space will cost you $12 (prices are subject to change). When parking, you will be directed to a spot by an attendant and will not be allowed to choose your own space.
In addition to NRG Arena events, you can also see what may be happening at any of the other NRG Park's separate buildings. Beyond the Park, both the Houston Zoo and Houston Museum of Natural Science are close by. You can also visit the Menil Collection if you're feeling more artistic. There's also plenty of local eateries in between all of these locations.
