NRBQ, or New Rhythm and Blues Quartet is an American rock band founded in 1966 in Louisville, Kentucky. The band has performed with various lineups, but the tour features pianist Terry Adams, guitarist Scott Ligon, bassist Casey McDonough and drummer John Perrin.

Live performances of NRBQ are known for their spontaneity and feature a unique blend of jazz, blues, rock, rockabilly and pop styles. They never work with a set list, so every performance is a new show.

With over five decades as a band, NRBQ has an extensive discography to choose from and frequently performs unique twists on various covers.

 

NRBQ background

NRBQ was formed in 1965 as a rehearsal band but toured regularly as NRBQ by the late 1960s. The first lineup consisted of Terry and Donn Adams, Charlie Craig and Steve Ferguson.

NRBQ has an impressive fan club. Their songs have been performed by acts like Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos and Dave Edmunds among others. Legends including Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Keith Richards and Elvis Costello are avid fans.

Throughout the decades the band members shuffled around and continued to tour and record. The band took a hiatus in 2004 and returned in 2006 alongside the release of Sponge Bob Square Pants album The Best Day Ever. The soundtrack featured backing music by NRBQ members.

To date, NRBQ has released more than 25 studio albums, over ten live albums and appeared on numerous compilations. A few notable members of the band include bassist Joey Spampinato, guitarist Steve Ferguson, guitarist Al Anderson and drummer Tom Ardolino.

NRBQ served as the unofficial house band for a few seasons of The Simpsons when fan Mike Scully was head writer.

On April 30 and May 1, 2004, NRBQ celebrated their 35th anniversary and featured every former and current member of the band.
