The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame first took to the courts in 1898 under the guidance of coach Frank Hering. Since that time, the team has gone on to appear in one Final Four tournament, 17 Sweet Sixteen tournaments and 36 NCAA tournaments. The team also holds two titles for the Helms Foundation National Championship for the seasons of 1927 and 1936. The Fighting Irish basketball team’s overall NCAAT record stands at 38-40, and Notre Dame holds the conference titles to the Big East Regular Season Championship (2001) and the ACC Tournament championship (2015). Men’s basketball has yielded 20 AP All-Americans, with the most recent being Bonzie Colson, Jr. in 2017, and five Big East Players of the year, with the most recent being Ben Hansbrough in 2011.
