Conference: ACC
Division: Coastal
Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
2019 Record: 46-19
''Baseball was launched on the campus at Chapel Hill all the way back in 1867 when a team from UNC soundly defeated an All-Star team from Raleigh, N.C., by a score of 34-17. However, that was the only season the school would field a baseball team until 1891 when the program was reborn. Initially a member of the Southern Conference in the early 1900s, the Tar Heels would win six conference titles under head coach, Bunn Hearn. Current head coach Mike Fox took over in 1999 and in his first season posted a record of 41-18. He took the program to the post season for the fifth time in the 1990s. The 2000s got off to just as impressive of a start when the 2000 season saw the Tar Heels reel off a school record 21-game winning streak. Today's Tar Heels are still one of the premier programs in college baseball. Grab your North Carolina Tar Heels baseball tickets today at the world's largest online ticket marketplace, StubHub.'

During his two-plus decade time at the helm of the team, Coach Fox has cemented North Carolina's position at the top of the College Baseball world. Carolina has posted a 936-399-1 record in Fox’s 21 seasons in Chapel Hill and has taken an incredible seven trips to the College World Series since 2006. Fox was named the Baseball America Coach of the Year following the 2008 season. He sits near the top of the history books in career wins and winning percentage. Fox is one of only six men in the history of College Baseball to play in and then coach his alma mater in the College World Series, having piloted the Heels to 18 World Series appearances in his 21 years as head coach. Before taking over as coach at the school that he played, Fox posted 539 wins at Division-III North Carolina Wesleyan. Coach Fox is a staple of North Carolina baseball and is a revered name across the college baseball landscape.'

The University of North Carolina has a long history of putting players into the Major Leagues. One of the earliest and most recognizable names is Moonlight Graham who was a character in the movie,
Field of Dreams
. He made it to the Big Leagues in 1905. Names from the late 1980s and early 1990s, such as B.J. Surhoff and infielder Walt Weiss, also spent their college years at Chapel Hill. Younger baseball fans may recognize the names of infielder Dustin Ackley and relief pitcher Andrew Miller who are also alumni of the University of North Carolina.
''Boshamer Stadium at the University of North Carolina is one of the top baseball stadiums in college baseball. Reopened after an extensive overhaul in 2009, it has a seating capacity of over 4,100 people with overflow seating options equipped to hold up to 5,000 fans. The original Boshamer Stadium was a gift from UNC graduate and textile entrepreneur Cary C. Boshamer. Many of the modern improvements that were installed in 2016 were funded by former Tar Heel baseball players who had moved on to the Major Leagues.'

In the world of college athletics, there are two things that really make rivalries intense: geography and conferences. While several schools have an in-state rival who don't play in their conference or a conference rival from several states away, the University of North Carolina's chief rivals check both boxes. There is a long-standing, intense rivalry between the Tar Heels and the
North Carolina State Wolfpack
. North Carolina also has a conference/state rivalry with the hated
Duke Blue Devils
. While that rivalry is typically associated with both programs basketball success, they have an intense rivalry on the diamond as well.
