There is something about college sports that brings out the passion in the fans, and that's something that anyone can witness every time they head to the stadium or arena for a big game. The two most popular collegiate sports are undeniably football and basketball, as they're the most followed games in the NCAA. Both of these sports have some fantastic games throughout their seasons, and you can be there to enjoy the action in person. There are also a number of other great collegiate sports than you can catch in person this season, from ice hockey to volleyball. Feel the intensity for yourself when you get out for a game in the near future.

Every game can make or break a team's season in the college ranks, which is what makes each contest so intense. These college athletes are some of the most impressive football players you'll ever see in person, and some of them will go on to the next level to star in the National Football League. College football fans love to head to the stadium to root for their favorite teams, and they'll have plenty of opportunities to do so this college football season.

As for college hoops, fans will be clamoring to get into the arena to see some of the top teams go head-to-head in matchups throughout the season. Every year college basketball receives an influx of talented freshman, and usually at least one or two of those players takes the country by storm. This makes for some exciting teams that are better than expected. Of course, many fans are simply waiting for the NCAA Tournament, also known as March Madness. The NCAA Tournament is quite possibly the most exciting sporting event in the world, with more than 60 teams from all over the country vying for the National Championship. It's win or go home in March Madness, and that's what makes every game so great.

History

College sports are an institution in American society and have been a big part of the country's culture for a very long time. College football dates all the way back to late 1800s, and things really took off for collegiate sports with the formation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1910. The NCAA gradually began to take over the governance of college sports and now essentially runs all collegiate athletics. College football is immensely popular across the country, and is a way of life in much of the southern part of the United States. College basketball is also incredibly popular, and March Madness is one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year. While not as popular as football or basketball, other sports such as volleyball and ice hockey are closely followed by a lot of fans as well.

Life as a Fan

Fans of college athletics bring an intensity to the table that is paralleled by very few pro sports fans. There's something about the top level of amateur competition that really gets the crowd going. College football fans carve out their entire Saturday to celebrate all that comes with the game. These diehards are up early and off to the stadium parking lot for tailgating before the game. Once inside the stadium, they can be heard screaming their heads off for their favorite team to come out on top. It's a real thrill to be in the stands when the star player takes it into the end zone for the win, or at a college hoops game when the home team hits a three-pointer at the buzzer to take home the victory.

Introducing New Fans

College football boasts some of the most passionate fans in sports, and keeping track of football is easier than most sports, because there are less games played and they often take place on the weekends. Saturday is the big day for college football, so one day a week can give you most of the information you need. What a new fan of a college sport really needs to do is head to the stadium or arena to experience the game for themselves live and in person. Once you see the first big hit of a football game or slam dunk of a basketball game you'll be hooked.

Experience

When you head out for a big college football game you're sure to experience all that comes with a gridiron clash. The parking lot at the stadium will be filled with people gearing up for the big game, grilling up some grub and sipping on a few beverages as well. If basketball is your thing, then prepare to enter an arena that is simply buzzing with excitement. Or you can head to the rink to catch a hockey contest that features some of the strongest and most graceful athletes in the world. Whatever you desire, college sports has you covered.
