The New York Mets have appeared in more World Series games (5) than any other MLB expansion team. It's an exciting time to be a New York Mets fan these days, as the new ownership is investing heavily in talent and working to build a future superstar team.
The New York Mets were founded in 1962, stepping into the space left behind by the Dodgers and the Giants in NYC and attracting fans from both former teams. The Amazin’ Mets have won 6 division titles, 5 National League Pennants, and appeared in 5 World Series games, bringing home 2 of those Championships. The Mets have a fierce ongoing rivalry with the Philadelphia Phillies that may be the most combative matchup in the National League.
Going to a New York Mets home game at Citi Field is a lot of fun. Mets fans are friendly and Citi Park is a beautiful retro-classic ballpark with lots to see and great food. If you'd like to bring your own party, tailgating is allowed in most parking lot areas.

The New York Mets play at Citi Field, which opened in Flushing, New York, in 2009, with a seating capacity of 41,922. The home of the Amazin’ Mets is a beautiful ballpark, built in a classic-retro style that incorporates many ties to the past. The exterior was designed to honor Brooklyn’s classic Ebbets Field, with contrasting red brick, arched openings and windows, and a stunning rotunda entrance. An exposed steel bridge theme throughout the park reflects the many bridges that connect the boroughs to New York City and symbolizes the Mets connection to the National League teams that came before them (the Giants and the Dodgers). Shea Bridge is an iron bridge pedestrian walkway right above the bullpens at right center field that’s become a fan favorite. Other nods to the Mets old Shea Stadium that you can spot at Citi Field include the orange foul poles (instead of standard yellow), the Manhattan skyline lights that once topped the Shea scoreboard, and the original home run apple. Citi Field’s vertically stacked seating brings fans close to the action for excellent views of the game and there’s also a bleacher seat section at center field. The soaring Jackie Robinson Rotunda entrance is impressive and a wonderful tribute honoring his accomplishments. Visit the Mets Hall of Fame Museum for interactive displays, artifacts from former players and collectors, World Series trophies, and a lot more franchise history. This is a very fan friendly park, and the amenities have been well thought out. There are multiple gathering places, interesting seating choices, and some of the best food at any ballpark. Citi Field was ranked No.1 Best Ballpark Food 2024 by Good Morning America and landed at No. 4 on USA Today’s Best MLB Stadium Food 2024. Should you want to bring your own party, tailgating is allowed in the parking lots. And if you're bringing the family, the FanFest area is amazing with everything from batting cages to a dunk tank, plus kid-approved food choices and visits from the team mascot, Mr. Met. It all adds up to make Citi Field a fun place to spend the day with friends and family enjoying a Mets game!

The New York Mets are part of the National League East along with the Atlanta Braves, the Miami Marlins, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Washington Nationals. The Mets biggest divisional rivals are the Phillies, and the matchup has seen a lot of contention and bench clearing brawls over the years.
Notable current New York Mets players include shortstop Francisco Lindor, a power hitter who is also electric out on the field and he’s having one of the best seasons in his career to date; first baseman Pete Alonso is one of the Major League’s best home run hitters, a two-time Home Run Derby winner and is No. 2 in the MLB for total home runs (223) since 2019; outfielder Brandon Nimmo’s reliable productivity places him at No. 8 among all MLB outfielders from his first Mets season in 2018 until today; and relief pitcher Edwin Diaz, who hurls at around 99 mph, becomes untouchable when he’s in the groove.
New York Mets fans are one of a kind. To be a Mets fan is to be loyal for life through the good times and the heartbreak. They describe themselves as “people who actually like baseball”, meaning they know their players names and enjoy the details of the game. They show up for batting practice, keep scorecards, and are generally kind to visitors. Mets fans also travel well and will often be a noticeable presence at opposing teams' ballparks. When the New York Mets formed in 1962, they inherited many new fans who had been Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants fans before both teams made a move to California in 1957. The Mets chose blue and orange for their uniforms, combining the Dodgers and Giants former team colors into one design that links them historically. The New York Mets gave people who had no interest in rooting for the Yankees a gutsy new team of underdogs to cheer for in the National League, and fans embraced them. From that point on being a fan became a family thing, because you grew up cheering for the team your parents cheered for, and also to some degree a neighborhood thing. The Mets had an unexpectedly excellent season in 2022, before reverting to the heartbreak that fans have come to know, but the current ownership has captured fan interest with the way he’s rebuilding the team during 2024. There’s more room in the budget to pay for big talent than before, and the Mets are creating a solid foundation for a future superstar team. These fans are ready for it and believe the good times are coming! Buy your New York Mets tickets on StubHub and get out to see the Mets play at beautiful Citi Field.
There are 17 New York Mets in the National Baseball Hall of Fame as of 2023: Casey Stengel, Yogi Berra, Warren Spahn, Willie Mays, Duke Snider, Tom Seaver, Richie Ashburn, Nolan Ryan, Eddie Murray, Gary Carter, Rickey Henderson, Roberto Alomar, Joe Torre, Tom Glavine, Pedro Martinez, Mike Piazza, and Gil Hodges.
The New York Mets have a much loved “Home Run Apple” that dates back to 1980. The original nine-foot-tall Apple at Shea Stadium popped up from a big magician’s top hat whenever a Met knocked one out of the park. The top hat had “Mets Magic” written on it which was later changed to read “HOME RUN”. The Home Run Apple quickly became a fan favorite. Fans liked it so much that when the team announced the Apple would be retiring when Shea Stadium closed, they started a petition to save the Apple! Ownership listened and commissioned a new Home Run Apple to be built at Citi Field. The shiny new Apple is eighteen-feet-tall and pops out of the batter's eye in center field after every Mets home run. The original Home Run Apple and top hat were moved to a new home outside the Citi Field entrance, where the Apple enjoys a lot of fan attention and photo opportunities.
