New Orleans is one of the most-visited cities in the United States, in large part due to its unmatched array of entertainment options. The Big Easy is famous for its unique architecture, street cars, all-night revelries along Bourbon Street and the French Quarter, the striking landmark St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square, and the mighty Mississippi River that flows through it all. The streets of New Orleans are never more festive than during the city's world-famous Mardi Gras celebrations, but all year around there's an abundance of entertainment options for everyone.
Music fans may well discover their motherland in New Orleans, whose extraordinary musical heritage includes the development of an eponymous style of jazz, plus Cajun, zydeco and Delta blues styles. From brass bands performing in the streets to concerts at venues throughout the city, there's always music in the air. This is never more true than during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, one of the largest music festivals in the United States. It showcases many genres along with jazz, and it also features music, foods and arts and crafts. Other New Orleans festivals include the Voodoo Music Experience, a multi-day music and arts festival in City Park, and the Essence Music Festival.
During football season, fans can get tickets to a New Orleans Saints game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts, one of the biggest venues in New Orleans, is the home of the New Orleans Opera, New Orleans Ballet and Broadway Across America productions. Another notable venue is Preservation Hall, which also functions as a cultural institution with a mission to protect and promote traditional New Orleans jazz music.
