The NCAA Women’s College World Series, which has been played in Oklahoma City since 1990, brings together the top collegiate softball programs to compete in a series of nationally televised contests. Some of the most dominant schools have included Oklahoma, Arizona and UCLA. Fans on the lookout for future Olympians will likely see some in Oklahoma City as several of the members of the U.S. national team have played in this event. While this is a big event for softball aficionados, the NCAA Women’s College World Series has grown in popularity for all collegiate sports fans. Either way, make sure to grab your NCAA Women’s College World Series tickets at StubHub today.
The NCAA Women’s College World Series has been held at Oklahoma City’s
ASA Hall of Fame Stadium
, which has been called the Mecca of Softball, since 1990, and it’s expected to remain there for years to come. This is also the facility where prestigious international events such as the World Cup of Softball have been held. Its capacity will increase to 12,000 for the 2020 WCWS with the addition of an upper deck.
All eight participating teams will play their first 2020 NCAA Women’s College World Series games on May 28. Every squad is guaranteed at least two games in Oklahoma City while the national champion will be crowned following a best-of-three national championship series, which will be played from June 1 - 3.
The schools competing for a national championship in Oklahoma City will not be determined until the conclusion of the Super Regional round. This round, which is held the previous weekend, includes eight separate best-of-three series. To qualify, hundreds of NCAA Division I softball programs must fight it out during the regular season, which starts in February. Just 64 teams will advance to the Division I Softball Championship three weeks prior to the WCWS.
The exact price of NCAA Women’s College World Series tickets will be determined by a number of factors, including how far in the future the games will be played and who will be participating. With ASA Hall of Fame Stadium’s capacity increasing in 2020, that’s expected to create demand as fans clamor to see the new setting. Of course, it will also make more room for lower-priced seats
Women’s College World Series games have a nice blend of excitement and enthusiasm with a relaxed, homey feel. While those cheering on their favorite schools add to the excitement, local fans and those who traveled to Oklahoma City simply because they love the sport will tend to be in the latter group.
One of the significant differences between baseball and softball is that softball games are scheduled for seven innings, not nine. Also, they can end in five or six innings if a team is winning by 8 or more runs (with the exception of the national championship series). Like in baseball, softball games that are tied can go into extra innings. For example, there was an epic 17-inning affair at the 2017 WCWS; Oklahoma defeated Florida, 7-5, in that exciting contest.
