There is no better event to attend for fans of track and field than the NCAA Track and Field Championships. The annual event provides a showcase for elite collegiate track and field athletes to compete for both personal and team accomplishments. The first NCAA Track and Field Championships were held in 1921. Track events include both sprint and long-distance races. There are also multiple events for hurdlers. Popular NCAA Track and Field Championships events that are based on jumping include the high jump and long jump. Fan-favorite throwing events include the discus throw and shot put. Successful performances by an athlete will result in the college they attend receiving points. The total points for the schools are tallied once the competition is over. The team with the most points at the end of the competition will earn the right to be called the current year's NCAA Track and Field Champions.
