The College World Series is an annual summer tournament that brings together some of the best players and teams from throughout the world of college baseball. After a grueling gauntlet at the regional level, the World Series determines the overall winner of NCAA Division I for the calendar year. The history of the College World Series stretches back to 1947 when it was first played in Kalamazoo, Mich. After a brief stop in Wichita, Kan., the organizers settled on the current location, Omaha, in 1950. The city soon became associated with college baseball as a whole. Some of the famous names to play in the World Series include Roger Clemens, Ed Sprague, George H.W. Bush, Terry Francona and Jackie Jensen. Throughout its history, the Pac-12 (previously the Pac-10) and SEC have dominated the World Series. The
University of Southern California
holds the record with 12 all-time wins. If you want to experience the rich heritage, then you can purchase College World Series tickets at StubHub, a leading source for live events.
The College World Series represents the final stage of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. A total of 64 teams enter the
regional portion
of the bracket at the beginning of the tournament. This consists of 30 conference champions and 34 at-large selections. The 64 teams are then whittled down to only eight by the end of the
super regional stage
. These eight teams then travel to Omaha for the College World Series. Unlike the MLB championship for which it’s named, the College World Series is not just one series. It consists of two double-elimination brackets of four teams each. The winners advance to play in a best-of-three championship series. The first team to win two games is crowned the Division I champion for the season.
The College World Series typically takes place in June. The exact dates change each year, so keep an eye on the schedule. The 2020 College World Series begins on June 13 and lasts until June 23 or 24, depending on whether an extra game is necessary. Tickets are available for individual sessions. You will also need to purchase an additional parking pass for the day of the game.
