The storied women's Wolfpack at North Carolina State University got its start in 1974. The first game the team ever played was against the

Virginia Cavaliers

and resulted in a victorious score of 57-45 over the opposing team. Robert Doak, the first coach for the NC State Women's Wolfpack, got his start in baseball as a young man. Coaching basketball was something of a family tradition for Doak with Robert's uncle and father also leading college ball teams. Doak didn't remain in this position for long, but he still gave the Wolfpack a pretty good first season record of 11-4 overall. Kay Yow joined the basketball staff as the new head coach in 1975. Basketball was just one of three women's athletic programs Yow spearheaded as coach. Previously, she had experience with basketball as the coach for the

Elon Phoenix

team. Success under Yow was not immediate, but she recorded her first win for the Wolfpack when they beat the

Cougars

on North Carolina State's home turf. Grab your NC State Wolfpack women's basketball tickets now at StubHub.
