''The Michigan Wolverines have one of the oldest and most storied hockey programs in the NCAA. The Wolverines first took to the ice in 1922–23. That first team got off to a rough start, with a record of four wins and seven losses. However, in time, Michigan's Wolverines became one of the best teams in the NCAA. The Wolverines claimed their first NCAA championship in 1948. They've continued to make waves in the NCAA tournament in the decades since. Today, the Wolverines are still an elite college hockey program. They count several NHL draft picks among the players on their roster. Currently, the team is coached by Mel Pearson. Pearson's first year was 2017–18, and he led the team to a record of 22–15–3. That was good enough for a third-place finish in the NCAA.
