The Miami Marlins franchise started off strong, setting a record for the fastest MLB team to go from inception, to winning the World Series (since beaten by the Arizona Diamondbacks). The team has seen a lot of ups and downs in the years that have followed. Current management is focused on a new “draft-and-develop" system, intended to build a team with the focus on player longevity. The current roster has some solid young talent worth watching. Miami fans are friendly and loanDepot park is a fantastic place to catch a ball game.
The Miami Marlins are the third youngest franchise in the Majors and in many ways are still finding their rhythm. Founded in 1993, the Miami Marlins have yet to win a division title but have made 4 playoff appearances as Wild Card entries, won 2 National League Pennants, and appeared in 2 World Series games, bringing home both of those Championships. The Marlins biggest division rivals are the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets.
Going to a Miami Marlins home game at loanDepot park is a lot of fun. The stadium is bright and beautiful whether the roof is open or closed and you’ll find the view is fantastic from all seats. Marlins games are family friendly and known to be opposing fan friendly too.

The Miami Marlins play at loanDepot park (yes that really is the official spelling), which opened 2 miles west of downtown Miami, Florida in 2012. With a seating capacity of 37,442, it’s the second smallest ballpark in Major League Baseball. Located in Little Havana, the stadium was built on what many football fans consider to be “hallowed ground”, the site where the storied Orange Bowl stadium once stood. Originally known as Marlins Park, the Marlins stadium was the first new ballpark built in what was termed “contemporary style”. Ownership didn’t want a typical, symmetrical stadium, or the popular retro-classic feel. The designers used white stucco, elegant angles, curves, and glass, to create a Miami-deco, “water meets land” aesthetic. Featuring a retractable roof and 240-feet of glass panels with a view of the Miami skyline, the building achieved LEED Gold Certification for its environmentally friendly sustainability efforts. loanDepot park is clean, open, and easy to move around in. Built specifically for baseball, there’s not a bad seat in the house. Some of the original unique design features have been changed, notably during the Derek Jeter as CEO years. The fish tanks behind home plate that held live fish in over 1000 gallons of water were gone as of the 2001 season. And in a controversial move, the 73-foot-tall animatronic, home run, fountain sculpture by pop artist Red Grooms was moved from its original home in left center field and placed outside the stadium’s front doors. It used to light up, spin animated marlins and flamingos, and spray water in the air after every Marlins home run. Now goes off just once a day for the tourists, at 3:05pm, a reference to the stadium’s 305 area code. One unique “must-see” area at loanDepot park is the amazing Bobblehead Museum with over 500 baseball themed bobbleheads, displayed in glass cases with vibrating shelves that set them all in motion! Don’t miss the in-park tribute to the former Miami Orange Bowl near section 25 and look for the original Orange Bowl lampposts outside the park, along with benches made from the Orange Bowl stadium seats. There are some great food options at loanDepot park, from Cuban themed food, to sushi, and a special 3o5 Menu with ballpark favorites available for $3 and $5. Bring the kids for a fun day and turn them loose in Billy’s Kids Zone, or let them try out batting cages and mini home run derby activities on Sundays.

The Miami Marlins are part of the National League East along with the Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Washington Nationals. Thoughts differ on the Marlins biggest division rivals, with the Mets and Braves as solid contenders, but most fans immediately point to the American League’s Tampa Bay Rays and the interleague Citrus Series.
The Marlins have entered a rebuilding period and traded away several star players. Notable current Miami Marlins players include third baseman Jake Burger, who had a career high OPS last season, and was heating things up with his batting performance again this summer; rookie shortstop Xavier Edwards is masterful at stealing bases and in July 2024 became the second Marlins player ever to hit for the cycle; second baseman Connor Norby joined the team this season and has been consistently impressive at bat; and special mention to pitcher Sandy Alcántara, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner who unfortunately, is out for the balance of 2024 after undergoing surgery.
True Miami Marlins fans are said to be a rare breed. The Marlins are the third youngest MLB franchise and ownership has been “building” for the future for almost a decade now. What’s it like to be a Marlins fan? Frustrating is the overwhelming response. Marlins fans love the game and respect the players, but not the Marlins organization. They point to a lack of major signings, trades that don’t increase depth, a poor farm team system, and a history of trading their star players. Many fans say they buy their Marlins jerseys without player names on them, as they know they won’t last. After watching promising clubs get broken apart again and again fans are demanding continuity, which is exactly what the ownership says they are building right now. The current roster has some exciting young talent and fans are feeling cautiously optimistic for the seasons ahead. The most famous Marlins fan is a lawyer known as “Marlins Man” who gained fame by appearing regularly at major sporting events decked out in full orange Miami Marlins gear. Miami fans are friendly and there are often a lot of opposing team fans present at home games. Buy Miami Marlins tickets on StubHub and get out to catch some hot new players in action.
There are 7 Miami Marlins in the National Baseball Hall of Fame as of 2023: Tony Pérez, Andre Dawson, Mike Piazza, Iván Rodríguez, Tim Raines, Trevor Hoffman, and Jim Leyland.
The Miami Marlins have never won their division but have won 2 World Series Championships! In fact, all 4 of the Marlins post-season appearances to date have been Wild Card slots. In 1997, during their fifth season as a franchise, the Marlins became the first wild card team to ever win the World Series. They repeated their wild card to World Series move again in 2003, winning their second World Series.
