, Cam Henderson is known for coaching some of the best Marshall players in history. His career record from 1936 through 1955 stands at 362-159. The Thundering Herd basketball team has appeared in five NCAA tournaments, three CIT tournaments with one CIT Championship and three NAIA tournaments with one NAIA Championship. The team holds titles to five SoCon Regular Season Championships, three SoCon Tournament Championships and one C-USA Tournament Championship. Dan D’Antoni has been the head coach for the Thundering Herd since 2014. He possesses two degrees from Marshall, and he even played basketball for them during his college years. He was inducted into the Marshall Hall of Fame in 1990 and has previously served as assistant coach for the NBA’s

The Cam Henderson Center is located in the middle of Marshall University campus in Huntington, W.V. Originally built in 1981, it was completely gutted and updated in 1998 and holds 9,048 seats. There is a large parking garage located just across 3rd Street, and it is just a few blocks from some campus restaurants. The Cam Henderson Center is also the home of the
Marshall Thundering Herd women’s basketball
and
volleyball
teams. Along with the basketball court, the Henderson Center includes a basketball weight room, an 800-seat natatorium and the offices for the athletic department staff.

Over the years, the Thundering Herd basketball team has produced some top players, some of whom were drafted by the NBA. In fact, Andy Tonkovich was Marshall’s only first-round, first pick in the 1948 draft by the Basketball Association of America, later known as the NBA. Hal Greer caught the attention of then-coach Cam Henderson while still in high school. He ended up being the first African-American to receive a scholarship from Marshall. His successful basketball career went on past college into the NBA.
