Mariachi El Bronx Tickets

Mariachi El Bronx debuted in 2009, with their self-named album Mariachi El Bronx. The group, a mariachi alter ego of hardcore punk band The Bronx, performs serious Mexican folk music with traditional instrumentals, lyrics and from-the-heart vocals. Despite the name “Bronx,” original band members Matt Caughthran and Joby J. Ford are native to Los Angeles, CA, also where the band originated and continues to call home.

Lead singer Matt Caughtran attributes their L.A. residency as a big reason for their love and commitment to their mariachi sound. Mariachi is part of the local musical culture and felt like a natural outgrowth of their music as it evolved and they sought to discover new sounds. In the case of The Bronx, or Mariachi El Bronx, the sound they found didn’t evolve their original punk sound, but led them to a totally new style and tradition—one they take very seriously.

Albums

The birth of the band’s mariachi alter ego came from a desire to challenge themselves. Facing the challenge, out came an inspired flow of mariachi music that became their first album, released in 2009. In 2011, the band released their second album, Mariachi El Bronx II, demonstrating a full commitment to producing traditional, if not punk-inspired, mariachi music. The third album, Mariachi El Bronx III, continues to express their affection and enthusiasm for the mariachi lyrical and musical traditions with upbeat songs offset by somber philosophical lyrics.

Concert and Tickets

Mariachi El Bronx’s live performances typically feature both their punk and mariachi personalities, creating an eclectic combination of styles to the delight of audiences around the world. For their mariachi sets, strings and trumpet express the passion and fire of the music and leave audiences with memorable and catchy pieces with a strong Latin flavor. One exception of note for mariachi purists: the presence of drums stays in line with the mariachi style but certainly is not traditional and reflects the band’s punk background.

Mariachi El Bronx tours all over the globe. Check out their concert schedule and get your tickets at StubHub.
