Maine events

Maine attracts sports fans and music lovers like an electromagnet. Portland, the state's biggest city, is a buzzing entertainment hub, home to theaters, museums and arenas. There are also cultural attractions in the smaller cities and towns that populate Maine's rocky coastal landscape. Bangor, Augusta, Lewiston - all cities with burgeoning cultural scenes which entice locals and tourists.

Maine is a musical state. Folk and bluegrass are two genres that have been part of its soundtrack for decades. Portland also has a small but rich jazz scene. It's not uncommon to hear the twang of an acoustic guitar or the hum of a trumpet in one of the many live music bars in the Pine Tree State.

Then there are the festivals. Maine welcomes visitors from across the United States who love live music. Portland plays host to Chamber Music Northwest Winter Festival every January and Montavilla Jazz Festival every August. These Maine concert tickets sell fast! Over in Waterville, the Atlantic Music Festival brings classical sounds to the Colby College campus. Elsewhere in Maine, the Bowdoin International Music Festival features live orchestras. The event takes place in Brunswick.

It's not all about the music - sport also reigns supreme in Maine. The state has a professional minor league baseball team, the Portland Sea Dogs, and a basketball team that competes in the NBA Gatorade League, the Maine Red Claws. The Maine Black Bears, the football team at the University of Maine, are popular with fans of college sports.
