''While they've been playing baseball in Baton Rouge, La., for well over 100 years, the reign of dominance that the Tigers have enjoyed over most of the SEC really began around 1985. While the Tigers had managed a few postseason appearances up to that point, legendary manager Skip Bertman took the program to another level. Now, some 35 years later, things haven't really slowed down for the purple and gold. Bertman, who lead the program from 1984 until 2001 made the postseason every season except for his first. He was replaced by Smoke Laval who kept the program's postseason streak alive but only lasted five seasons. It was then that current head coach Paul Mainieri took over and has kept the Tigers perched atop the SEC. Grab your LSU Tigers baseball tickets at StubHub.'

Paul Mainieri has been the head baseball coach for the LSU Tigers since 2007. Over that time. he has posted an impressive record of 591–255–3 (.698) including leading the Tigers to the College World Series finals, winning it in 2009 and finishing as the runner-up in 2017. Mainieri's resume of winning at LSU has also included three other College World Series appearances in 2008, 2013 and 2015. Coach Mainieri has won the SEC West Division six times and has claimed the South Eastern Conference Championship four times. Before becoming the head coach at LSU, Paul Mainieri spent 12 wildly successful seasons as the head baseball coach at
Notre Dame
where he posted a record of 533–213–3 and saw 50 of his players either drafted or signed to Major League Baseball contracts.

A program with as storied a history as LSU is bound to have developed some intense rivalries over the years. The LSU Tigers have a longstanding rivalry with
Tulane Green Wave.
As far as conference rivalries go, LSU's longest-tenured rival is with the
Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The two SEC programs have been battling for more than a century now and have played more than 400 games against each other. While they've only squared off in the postseason a couple of times, the animosity between these squads is very real. One of the best parts about collegiate athletic rivalries is the battle for supremacy within the state. That's what makes the Tigers' rivalry with the
Ragin Cajuns
so special. This rivalry includes excessive celebrations, a history of batters being beaned and a bat that once found its way into the opposing team's dugout.
''Some of the top names in Major League Baseball today played their college baseball at Louisiana State University. Houston Astros star infielder, Alex Bregman; Yankees All-Star infielder, DJ LeMahieu; and Phillies Pitcher, Aaron Nola, are among the most notable. LSU's history of putting players on Major League rosters isn't new, though. The first LSU Tiger alumni made it to the Majors back in 1912, and the tradition has continued as all-time greats such as Todd Walker and Albert Belle have made their imprint in The Show. LSU has 81 players who have appeared in Major League baseball to date.'
'Alex Box Stadium has been the home of the LSU Tigers baseball team since 1938. The Tiger's first game at the stadium saw them win a rain-shortened contest against Minnesota by a score of 4–2. The new stadium opened in 2009 just a few hundred yards away from the original stadium site. The stadium was named after 1942 standout Tiger Alex Box who received multiple awards after being killed in World War II while serving in Northern Africa. With a seating capacity of 10,326, Alex Box Stadium has lead the NCAA in baseball attendance for a remarkable 23 consecutive years. The main entrance has an area set up to pay homage to the National Championship teams in LSU's history while the high-def video boards in the stadium boast the technological advances of today. For families visiting the ballpark, there are several large playground areas where children can enjoy their game day experience as well.'
