Christie grew up in Pittsburgh and developed a love for music early in his life and was very active in his high school's choir. After graduating from high school, Christie moved to New York City and began working as a session vocalist. During this time, he got some airplay on local radio stations. He had a few songs that got a lot of local attention, including one single which sold 30,000 copies in his hometown of Pittsburgh, but he didn't get a national breakthrough until 1965 after being discharged from the army.

In 1965, Christie signed a deal with MGM Records and began working on a record. Christie's debut album proved to be a success and launched his career. The album garnered hit songs in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom. Throughout his career, Christie encountered many roadblocks and sometimes went years between hit songs. But he persevered and managed to have several hits throughout the '60s and '70s. Now he will be playing a concert in his hometown, giving fans a chance to see the great singer live and in concert. Greatest Hits

Early in his career, Christie had several local hits before breaking through on the main stage. His first hit to break into the US Billboard Hot 100, was the 1963 song, The Gypsy Cried, which hit No. 24 on the charts. Later that year, he would rise to No. 6 on the charts with Two Faces Have I. His biggest hit came in 1965, with the song, Lightnin' Strikes, off the album of the same name. The song rose to No. 1 and was his only No. 1 hit. The single also hit No. 1 in Canada and No. 11 in the UK.

His next hit would come in 1966. The controversial, Rhapsody in Rain, rose to No. 16 on the charts. The song's controversial lyrics, which dealt with teenage lovers, was Christie's last major hit for several years. Following the single, he didn't have a song breakthrough the charts until the release of his 1969 song, I'm Gonna Make You Mine, which hit No. 10 in the US and rose to No. 2 in the UK. That would be Christie's last major hit song, but he released several singles throughout the '70s that received moderate airplay around the country.

Christie was born, Lugee Alfredo Giovanni Sacco. He adopted the stage name, Lou Christie in the early '60s, because he was looking for a fresh start after his time as a session vocalist.
