In March 1975, six musicians came together in Melbourne, Australia, to form an Australian supergroup called Little River Band. During its four-decade career, Little River Band has released 17 studio albums, five live albums, 12 compilation albums, one EP and 28 singles, with seven of its albums landing on the
Billboard
Hot 200 and 10 of its singles reaching the Top 20 on the
Billboard
Hot 100. Little River Band was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame in 2004, and has been nominated for over 30 awards, winning the 1978 Australian Rock Music Awards for Best Live Rock Act and Best Recording Group, the 1984 ARPA Most Played Australasian Popular Work and the 2001 ARPA Award for Top 30 Australian Song for Cool Change. The band's worldwide album and CD sales top 30 million.

It's not too surprising that Little River Band has had such musical success since many of its founding members began in other popular Australian groups. Beeb Birtles had been the bass guitarist for a band called Zoot, the band that launched
Rick Springfield
into fame. Graeham Goble was the lead in a rock group called Allison Gros, then began performing in a country-rock band called Mississippi, which was successful in Australia. Derek Pellicci and Beeb Birtles both joined Mississippi, and that group had an Australian No. 1 hit. Glen Shorrock had been the lead singer for the Twilights in the '60s and Axiom in the '70s. None of these other bands managed to break into the US or UK markets; it took several of their musicians coming together as Little River Band to make that happen.

'You can expect to hear Little River Band favorites such as It's a Long Way There, Man on Your Mind, Take it Easy on Me, Help Is On Its Way, The Night Owls, I'm an Island, Drum Solo and Lonesome Loser.'
'During the 40-plus years that Little River Band has existed, it has gone through more than 30 musicians. In fact, there are no longer any founding members of the band left. The original lineup included Ric Formosa on guitar, Beeb Birtles on guitar, Roger McLachlan on bass guitar, Graeham Goble on guitar, Derek Pillicci on drums, Graham Davidge on lead guitar, Dave Orams on bass guitar and Glenn Shorrock on vocals. The current lineup includes Wayne Nelson on lead vocals and bass guitar, Chris Marion on keyboards, Rich Herring on guitar, Ryan Ricks on drums and Colin Whinnery on guitar.'
'Several members of Little River Band got their start in the band Mississippi. Its name was deemed too American, so the bandmates began looking for a new name. On the way to a gig, they passed the Little River in Victoria and decided it would make a good band name.'
