Born Ari Staprans Leff in 1994 in San Francisco, Calif., Lauv learned multiple musical instruments at a young age and started writing his own songs in middle school. In high school, Lauv played in a series of bands and learned to play jazz before turning to electronica. He studied music technology at New York University's Steinhardt School, then went on to intern at Jungle City Studios. In 2018 Lauv was nominated for Breakout Artist at the Teen Choice Awards, and in 2019 he was nominated for Best New Pop Artist at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
