Football is arguably the most popular sport in America and it is not just the National Football League anymore. The popularity of Arena Football is on the rise and one of the newest franchises is taking the AFL by storm. The Las Vegas Outlaws were founded in 2014 and began playing their first games this season and are an instant hit with football fans in Sin City. Owned by famed Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil, the Outlaws have the perfect mix of edge and talent to perfectly fit their home city. The team plays their home games at the famed Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of University of Nevada Las Vegas, where the teams new fans are getting hooked on this exciting team.
The franchise's inaugural season is in full swing and there are still a few games left to catch the football fever that thousands of people in Las Vegas have already discovered. On July 25, the Outlaws welcome the New Orleans Voo Doo to the Thomas and Mack Center, and Outlaws fans will be excited to check out the team from the Big Easy for the first time. This clash will feature two exciting teams looking to make a jump in the standings and qualify for the playoffs. Don't miss your chance to see these two teams duke it out on the field in The Entertainment Capital of the World.
It seems fitting that the Outlaws will close out the regular season by welcoming the Spokane Shock, one of the most successful Arena Football League franchises, to the Thomas and Mack Center on August 8. The Spokane Shock are one of the winningest franchises in Arena Football League history and the only team to win both the ArenaCup and the ArenaBowl. The Shock have proven to be the model franchise, and the AFL's newest member from Las Vegas could learn a lot from the Shock. With stars like sack leader James Ruffin, the Arena Football League's 2014 Defensive Lineman of the Year, the Shock are a hard nosed football team that each opponent dreads playing. The Outlaws know that they will have their hands full with the visitors, but this talented football team is more than up for the task.
The history of the Las Vegas Outlaws, the Arena Football League's newest franchise, is a relatively short one. Sin City has been desperately vying for a professional sports franchise and the indoor football league is a perfect match for the climate of the area as well as its thirst for fast paced, high flying action. The Outlaws are not the city's first attempt at Arena Football League glory, through, with two other attempts occurring since the early 1990's. The first franchise for Las Vegas was The Sting, which competed in the AFL from 1994-1995. The team showed promise, but moved to Anaheim, California, where they became the Anaheim Piranhas before folding in 1997. Las Vegas tried a second time to make an Arena Football team work when they introduced the Las Vegas Gladiators in 2003. The team was originally the New Jersey Gladiators before moving to Las Vegas in 2003, but couldn't stay put, moving from Sin City to Cleveland in 2007. Las Vegas never hid its desire for a professional sports franchise, and finally Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil and other investors gave the city a chance in 2014 when he created the Las Vegas Outlaws, the Arena Football League reboot that first took the field in 2015. Unfortunately, the team did not last the season, with the AFL taking over control of both the Outlaws and the New Orleans Voo Doo in July of 2015 due to poor fan attendance and a lack of supposed marketing support from ownership. Even worse news followed, when by August 2015, the Las Vegas Outlaws franchise folded, leaving Sin City once again without its much desired sports team.
On any given night in Las Vegas, there are always tons of options for entertainment. Whether you want to catch a show, eat at a world class restaurant, try your hand at blackjack, or catch one of the most exciting sports around, Las Vegas has it all. Arena Football is as exciting and fast paced a sport that you will find. An Outlaw's game is the perfect outing for families and friends to enjoy football at lightning speed and for those who can't make it through the long NFL offseason without their football fix.
