Currently known as the Las Vegas Aces, the basketball franchise began in Salt Lake City, Utah. The team moved in 2003 to San Antonio, Texas, and was known as the San Antonio Stars. After playing for several years, the Stars made it to the WNBA finals in 2008 but lost to Detroit. The WNBA and NBA Board of Governors approved the relocation of the San Antonio Stars before the 2018 season and after relocating to Las Vegas and becoming the city's first professional basketball team, the Stars underwent a name change, now known as the Las Vegas Aces. With the 2020 regular season beginning in May, head coach Bill Laimbeer will continue in his second year to build on the momentum of the Las Vegas Aces 2019 season, in which the team reached the conference finals but ultimately lost to the

''Since moving to Las Vegas, the head coaching responsibilities have belonged to legendary NBA player, Bill Laimbeer. Recognized as one of the best centers in league history, Laimbeer played 12 seasons with the Detroit Pistons. During his tenure, he set a team record for career rebounds and his toughness landed him at the No. 2 spot for overall games played as a Piston. This includes a streak of 685 consecutive games played.'
'Five-time WNBA All-Star Angel McCoughtry has signed with the Aces for the 2020 season. An elite scorer with great defensive skills, McCoughtry looks to help the Aces build on a successful 2019 season that saw them make a deep playoff run, falling just short of the WNBA Finals. As one of the best defenders and the fifth-highest scorer in league history, McCoughtry will be bringing extra talent to the Las Vegas Aces.'
'Fans who want to see the Las Vegas Aces in action can see them play at the Mandalay Bay events center in Las Vegas. This venue provides four levels of options with a seating capacity of 12,000. The floor level is usually set up for general admission or reserved seating depending upon the event. The 100 level is the first tier still close to the action and offers a complete view. The 200 and 300 levels offer a view of the entire arena but at a further distance.'
'After six straight losing seasons, including five years in which the franchise was still playing in San Antonio, the 2019 Las Vegas Aces saw a remarkable turnaround. Only one year after hiring head coach Bill Laimbeer and relocating to Las Vegas, the team had a record of 21-13, which was good enough for fourth place in the Western Conference and the team’s first playoff appearance since 2014. The team reached the conference finals, where it lost the best-of-five series with the Washington Mystics 3-1.'
'Becky Harmon, C Margo Dydek, and F Elena Baranova are notable players who have made huge impacts for the Las Vegas Aces. Becky Harmon, who came to play for the franchise as a result of a trade-in 2007, is the only player whose number has been retired by the Las Vegas Aces. Later, she joined the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs as the first female full-time assistant coach. C Margo Dydek played from 1998-2004 and is still the all-time WNBA's leader in blocks. Then, F. Elena Baranova retired after 2005 and still holds the No. 17 shot-blocker record in WNBA history.'
