'Kottonmouth Kings Background'

A psychedelic hip-hop group from Placentia, Orange County, California, Kottonmouth made themselves official in 1994. The band's original lineup consisted of DJ Bobby B; rappers D-Loc and Saint Vicious; Brad Daddy X and Pakelika. The group soon started gigging along the West Coast, garnering fans along the way.

Suburban Life was the song that first garnered the band some recognition. With its inclusion on the Scream 2 soundtrack, the tune received lots of contemporary rock radio airplay. They also issued the Stoners Reeking Havoc EP in 1998. Royal Highness, a full-length album, dropped in 1998, followed by Hidden Stash in 1999. But, it was High Society that catapulted the Kottonmouth Kings into the mainstream. In the fall of 2001, the Kottonmouth Kings were invited to perform with Bionic Jive and D12 right before Hidden Stash, Vol. 2: Kream of the Krop arrived. Rollin' Stoned dropped in the fall of 2002. Several more albums followed, including Cloud Nine and Sunrise Sessions, to name a few.

The Kottonmouth Kings' first album was Royal Highness, which came out in 1998. It peaked at No. 17 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers Albums chart, with Bump landing at No. 28 on the Alternative Songs chart. Their album, High Society, led to mainstream success in 2000. This album ranked at No. 65 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. And their song, Peace Not Greed, landed at No. 37 on the Alternative Songs chart. Additionally, the album Hidden Stash II: The Kream of the Krop peaked at No. 100 on the Billboard 200. Kottonmouth Kings continued to see success with several of their other albums.
