After a 25-33 (.431) finish overall and 8-16 (.333) in Big 12 play, second-year coach Pete Hughes is returning 20 letter winners: seven position starters and 13 pitchers, including all four starters. Nine of Kansas State’s opponents appeared in the
NCAA
postseason tournament last year, with 18 of their opponents finishing the prior season ranked in at least one poll. Hughes and his Wildcats are excited to build upon the success of their first year together as they bounce back from dismal seasons in the previous three years. Adding to the excitement, renovations to
Tointon Family Stadium

In-state opponent
Wichita State University
is a key matchup for Kansas State Wildcats baseball games in the non-conference portion of the schedule. The Shockers lead the series all-time 54-42. Home stands versus conference opponents will be important. Kansas State will host
Baylor
,
Oklahoma State
,
Texas
and
Kansas
in must-win series competitions for an invitation to the
Big 12
Championship Tournament in May. K-State last won a home series against Baylor in 2016 with an overall record vs Baylor at home of 15-18. The Wildcats have struggled historically with the Oklahoma State Cowboys at home with an overall record in Manhattan of 38-68 but swept OSU in 2010. K-State defeated the Longhorns of Texas in 2018, winning the series with an 11-10 victory. Regardless of the sport or location, any matchup between Kansas State and the University of Kansas is critical. The Wildcats lead the series overall at 180-174-1 and last swept KU at home in 2008.
''The Big 12 Conference does host a conference baseball tournament each year. The top eight teams in the conference qualify for the five-day tournament held in May each year. In his first season as head coach of the Wildcats, Coach Pete Hughes led the Wildcats to their first Big 12 Conference Tournament appearance since 2016.'
