volleyball team looks to bounce back this season. The team’s hitting percentage was just 0.184 for the season, and as a team, KU had 50 more serving errors than its opponents. In its strong conference, KU finished in the bottom four teams. After graduating Zoe Hill, Jacqui Mostrom, Allie Nelson and Ashley Smith, Coach Bechard has reloaded with seven freshmen, including outside hitter Ayah Elnady from Cairo, Egypt, and transfers Anezka Szabo and Paige Shaw. Szabo had success at
Nebraska
as a blocker and attacker, while Shaw played in 107 sets as a sophomore at
Mississippi State

In 2019, the Kansas Jayhawks women's volleyball team played its first matches in the brand-new
Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena
on the KU campus in Lawrence. The 30,000-square-foot arena features a Taraflex playing surface, hospitality mezzanine with loge seating overlooking center court and a new Hall of Fame corridor to improve the fan experience at KU.
Coach Ray Bechard has led Kansas volleyball to nine
NCAA Tournament
appearances, most recently in 2017 when it made its sixth straight tournament appearance. KU appeared in the tournament in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The team’s highest finish was in 2015 when No. 9 KU beat No. 1
USC
in five sets to advance to the NCAA Championship Semifinal.
Nebraska
defeated Kansas 3-1 in the semifinal round.
Kelsie Payne, Madison Rigdon and Ainise Havili all received AVCA All-American honors in 2017 with Havili being named AVCA Region Player of the Year. Zoe Hill, Rigdon, Payne and Havili were named to the AVCA All-Region Team also in 2017. Cassie Wait (2016-2017) was named Kansas City Sports Commission Sportswoman of the Year.
In 2019, the
Baylor Bears
and
Texas Longhorns
each finished conference play with a record of 15-1. Baylor went on to lose in the regional national semifinals to eventual national runner-up Wisconsin. With such tough competition in the Big 12 conference, KU will need to win key matchups with

Kansas volleyball won its first and only Big 12 conference regular-season title in 2016. The Jayhawks finished the season with a record of 27-3 and a conference record of 15-1. The team finished the year ranked 12th in the AVCA. Coach Ray Bechard was named conference Coach of the Year for the fourth time in five years. Kelsie Payne was named Big 12 Player of the Year, Cassie Wait was selected as Libero of the Year and Ainise Havili earned Setter of the Year honors in the conference.
