Joe Satriani is known for his highly technical style of guitar playing, and he is often called a guitar virtuoso. His performance techniques include arpeggio tapping, harmonics, legato and whammy bar effects. He is also known for sweep picking and alternate picking styles, too. Many of his works make references to science fiction ideas and stories. You can hear the influences of Jimi Hendrix,
Eric Clapton
,
Richie Blackmore
and Jeff Black in his music.
