'Jerry Rivera tour dates'

'

Often cited as one of the next generation of soneros - powerful salsa singers with a true feel for the music - Jerry Rivera is known for his clear, resonant voice and the effortless way he blends his voice into the complex rhythms of salsa music. Fans lucky enough to catch a Jerry Rivera tour can look forward to live tropical music in the best classic sense: his backing orquesta, or salsa band, and relatively understated stage show put all the attention squarely where it belongs - on Rivera's smooth voice as it transmits the melody and the heart of the music.

'Jerry Rivera background'

'

Jerry Rivera was born to a family of musicians in Puerto Rico. His father, Edwin, was the guitarist and director of a group called Los Barones Trio; his mother, Dominga, was a singer; and all four of his siblings were professional instrumentalists or recording artists. So it's little surprise that Jerry - whose birth name was Geraldo Rivera Rodriguez - accompanied his parents at performances as a child.

When Jerry was 12, Tommy Olivencia - a Puerto Rican trumpet player and band leader, who famously helped launch the careers of many famous soneros - spotted him and suggested to Jerry's father that the young man should sing solo. At 14, Jerry signed with the CBS music department and made music for his first salsa album under the performing name El Bebé de la Salsa (The Baby of Salsa).

'Jerry Rivera achievements'

'

Jerry began soaring to international success with his third album, Cuenta Conmigo, which went triple platinum and held the No. 1 spot on the Latin American Billboard charts for three months in a row. His following albums generated a string of singles that consistently charted at No. 1 or No. 2 in the U.S. Latin Tropical charts; one noteworthy single, Quiero, from the album Rivera, topped not just the U.S. Latin Tropical Charts but also the U.S. Latin Pop and general U.S. Latin charts as well.

Despite that string of hits, Rivera's best exposure to date has arguably been the 1992 song Amores Como el Nuestro. Although it peaked at an impressive No. 16 on the U.S. Latin charts, rapper Wyclef Jean sampled it in 2004 in a new song for the soundtrack of Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. In 2006, Wyclef Jean and Colombian singer Shakira sampled it again as part of their hit Hips Don't Lie, which went straight to No. 1 on the charts.

Jerry Rivera has three Grammy Award nominations under his belt, and one for a Latin Grammy Award. The Grammy nominations were for Best Tropical Latin Performance (1994 and 1996) and Best Salsa Performance (1999); the Latin Grammy Award was for his album Cantando a mi Idolo... Frankie Ruiz, a tribute to the late Frankie Ruiz, one of Jerry Rivera's idols growing up.
