'Jefferson Starship tour dates'

'

Jefferson Starship's success peaked during the 1970s and early 1980s, when the band pioneered the popular arena rock and progressive rock genres. With Jefferson Airplane, one of the biggest rock bands of the 1960s as its predecessor, a certain level of fame was all but guaranteed from the outset of Jefferson Starship's formation. However, the latter band's huge popularity came down to the catchy, radio-friendly sound they came to master. A contemporary Jefferson Starship tour brings to the live stage such huge hits as Caroline, Miracles and With Your Love.

'Jefferson Starship's background'

'

The first incarnation of Jefferson Starship was a group of musicians, among them David Crosby, Graham Nash and former members of the Grateful Dead, billed alongside former Jefferson Airplane member, Paul Kantne,r for his debut solo album, Blows Against the Empire. A band with the same name but different lineup became a more permanent entity circa 1974, heading out on tour and then hitting the recording studio to release the single, Caroline, and album, Dragon Fly. Sales of that album, which marked a more mainstream sound than Jefferson Airplane's signature psychedelia, would later be certified gold.

Jefferson Starship's second album, Red Octopus, came out in 1975 and sold better than any other Jefferson Airplane or Jefferson Starship album. It topped the album charts at No. 1, and eventually sold more than two million copies. The highest charting hit off the album was the strings-and-sax-heavy ballad, Miracles, followed by another hit with Play on Love. Spitfire, released in 1976, went platinum, spent six consecutive weeks at No. 3 on the Billboard chart,s and gave the band a Top 20 hit in With Your Love. The follow-up, 1978's Earth, went platinum and yielded a Top 10 hit with Count on Me and Top 20 hit with Runaway.

Jefferson Starship evolved with a new lineup in 1979, the same year the band released its fifth album, Freedom at Point Zero. The album would go gold, reach the Top 10 of the album charts, and give Jefferson Starship another Top 20 hit with Jane. The hits kept coming well into the 1980s, notably Find Your Way Back off 1981's gold-selling Modern Times, and then Be My Lady, plus the title track off Winds of Change. Another Top 40 hit, No Way Out came from 1984's Nuclear Furniture. In the 1990s, Jefferson Starship released a live album, Deep Space/Virgin Sky, and another studio album, Windows of Heaven.

In this century, Jefferson Starship continues to offer new music to their fans, including 2001's two-CD live album, Across the Sea of Suns, and a new studio album in 2008, Jefferson's Tree of Liberty. The band has also maintained a dedicated touring schedule, in 2009 playing as part of the Heroes of Woodstock Tour, alongside Canned Heat, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and the Levon Helm Band.
