'It was a vocal competition that determined Jane Monheit's career path when she was just 20 years old. At that time, she entered a contest in 1998, sponsored by the Thelonious Monk Institute. She ended up being named first runner-up and took home a scholarship for $10,000 to help advance her education in music. By 2000, Monheit had joined the ranks of other gifted, highly respected jazz contemporaries like Diana Krall. She inked a deal with N-Coded that same year and issued Never Never Land, her first album. The effort was followed by Come Dream with Me (2001). For the remainder of the 2000s, she issued several more albums. Her latest effort is The Heart of the Matter, which arrived in 2013.'
