With the breakthrough single, Lawn Chair Lazy, the James Barker Band has the vibe of good times and fun similar to Little Big Town. This is clear with JBB referencing the county quartet's song, Day Drinking. The harmony-driven songs created by James Barker Band focus on good people and good times.
Since their hit song, the band has done anything but rested on their laurels, returning to the main stage in 2016, while teaming up with headliner, Dierks Bentley for a surprise show just days prior to the event. After which the band released their new hit single, Just Saying. In 2017, the band released additional singles, including Chills and It's Working. Since then, James Barker Band tickets have been in higher demand than ever before.
Catching a show during the James Barker Band tours is fun but learning more behind the scenes information is something many fans strive to do. Each of the members of the band is in their mid-twenties, and they have been playing together for almost five years. Connor and James originally met during high school band camp, playing in a self-proclaimed angry teenage band. The pair met Taylor who ran a recording studio, and then Bobby on the bar circuit.
Originally from Woodville, Ontario, Canada, and formed in 2013, the James Barker Band earned a big break in the music industry by winning the Boots and Heats Music Festival Emerging Artist Competition in 2015. With this achievement, the band opened for Thomas Rhett at the country music festival in Canada each year. The win also resulted in a record deal with Universal Music Group, which included an all-inclusive trip to Music City, Nashville, TN to record and write several songs, including Lawn Chair Lazy the band's hit single in 2016.
Prior to each show during the James Barker Band tours, the guys bump fists, referring it to something called feed the chicken. The tradition involves one band member putting their hand out, with the palm up. The remaining band members peck at the open hand with their hands like chickens.
During the 2017 CMAO Awards, the James Barker Band received the award for Fan's Choice and also a nomination for group/duo of the year, single of the year for Lawn Chair Lazy and music video of the year for Chills.
The same year, nominations for the James Barker Band at the CCMA's were for album of the year, group/duo of the year, single of the year, rising star award and video of the year.
Fans of James Barker Band will likely find other country performers, such as Brothers Osborne and Eric Church.
