Under Head Coach Fran McCaffery, the Iowa Hawkeyes continue to be a strong contender in the Big 10 Conference. The team has gone to the NCAA Championship 25 times and played in the Final Four three times. Their last appearance was in 2015 when the team lost to
Gonzaga University
in the second round. This Big 10 Conference team plays its home games in
Carver Hawkeye Arena
on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City. Thirty Hawkeyes players have gone on to play in the NBA, including Tyler Cook, Jarrod Uthoff, Brad Lohaus, John Johnson and Bobby Hansen. Within the conference, their strongest rivals are
Michigan University
,
Michigan State University
,
Purdue
and
Maryland
. While some say may wish to turn back the clock to the Iowa Hawkeyes' thrilling season in 1987 when the team was fiercely feared by everyone, with many players going on to NBA careers, this year promises lots of thrilling action. Grab your Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball tickets at StubHub.

''The Iowa Hawkeyes’ head coach is Fran McCaffery. He was named the head coach on March 29, 2010. Under his coaching, the Iowa Hawkeyes have appeared in four NCAA tournaments in six years. During the 2018-2019 season, the Iowa Hawkeyes won all of its non-conference games under this coach. This was a feat that the University of Iowa had not done in 32 years. McCaffery is one of only 14 Division I coaches to take four different programs to an NCAA tournament game. The others are Lehigh, UNC-Greensboro, Siena and Iowa.'

The Hawkeyes went 10-10 in conference games during the 2018-2019 season. The team went 23–12 overall, and they finished sixth in the Big 10 Conference. That was good enough to get Iowa into the
Big 10 Tournament
, where they defeated the
University of Illinois
before losing to the University of Michigan. The Hawkeyes also got invited to the NCAA Championship, where the team defeated the
Cincinnati Bearcats
before losing to the
Tennessee Volunteers
.

During the 2019-2020 Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball season, the team cannot afford to look past any of its conference rivals. The toughest game of the year may occur against Michigan State at the
Breslin Student Events Center
in East Lansing, Mich. This should be a fun game to watch with Cassius Winston, who was last year’s Big 10 Player of the Year, participating. Another very tough game on the Hawkeyes' schedule this year will be playing
Syracuse
at the
Carrier Dome
on December 3, 2019.
''For the 2019-2020 season, the team will be looking to sophomore Joe Wieskamp to lead the team. In last year’s NCAA tournament, Wieskamp became the first Hawkeyes' player since 1997 to score at least 19 points and five rebounds in a game. He will be assisted by senior Luka Garza and by senior Ryan Kriener, who has an outstanding inside-outside game.'
