'Iowa Hawkeyes Baseball Tickets'

'The Iowa Hawkeyes baseball program was originally launched in 1890. Now entering their 130th season of varsity baseball, the Hawkeyes have well over 2000 wins and have long been a formidable member of the Big 10 conference. While the earliest years of Iowa baseball were not exceptional, the program experienced some success in the 1970s, including the 1972 season which saw them make a run all the way to the College World Series. Though they were eliminated in the District Tournament portion of the Tournament by Temple, it was the best season the Hawkeyes had seen until that point and marked their first trip to the postseason. Iowa would make two more trips to the postseason between 1972 and 2015. Currently coached by Rick Heller, Iowa has seen more consistent success and is looking to build on their two postseason trips in the last five seasons. 'Who is the head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team?'

'

Rick Heller is entering his seventh season as the head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team. While he is still relatively new to the University of Iowa, Heller has been a longtime coach in the college baseball world. Over his impressive 32-year career, Heller has piloted Upper Iowa, Northern Iowa and

Indiana State

to the postseason in addition to his recent success at Iowa. Coach Heller's impact was immediately felt at Iowa as his first season saw the team start 9-1, which was their best start since 1940. Heller is one of only five active coaches to lead three Division I teams to the post season. With a lifetime record of 894-698-4, Heller has established himself as a winner. Although he's the 20th coach in the history of Iowa Hawkeyes baseball, he is only the second one to lead the program to the postseason. During Heller's coaching tenure, 21 former Hawkeyes have been selected in the MLB draft.

'Where does the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team play?'

'Duane Banks Field opened in 1974 when Duane Banks was still the manager of the Hawkeyes. It was Banks who had served as head coach when Iowa made it to the College World Series in 1972 and had been the most successful Hawkeyes coach until then. Banks coached the Hawkeyes for 28 seasons and won 810 games. Today, massive renovations have been made to the stadium including chair back seats behind home plate, metal bleachers in place of wooden ones and a new video board above the left field wall. Duane Banks Field has a seating capacity of 3000 fans.'

'Do the Iowa Hawkeyes have any rivalries in baseball?'

'

Since

the Nebraska Cornhuskers

joined the Big 10, they have developed a healthy rivalry with Iowa. The series has been relatively even, thus far, with Iowa leading the head-to-head series 15 to 14.

'

'Have any Iowa Hawkeyes baseball alumni played in Major League Baseball?'

'Right now, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Matt Dermody has the distinction of being the only former Iowa Hawkeye on a Major League Baseball roster. He has been with the team since 2016. Bo Porter, who managed the Houston Astros from 2013 to 2014, played for Iowa from 1990 until 1995. Also, alum Wes Obermueller played for several teams in the MLB, including the Marlins in 2007.'
