About Incognito

Founded in 1979 and known as one of the United Kingdom’s “greatest music stories,” Incognito is a group of more than a dozen singers and musical performers. This “acid-jazz” band transcends genres, including jazz-funk, jazz, soul and pop.

Paul “Tubbs” Williams and Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick created the group. Celebrating “positive vibes and undiluted jazz-funk,” Incognito prides itself on being a global phenomenon and one of the most soulful UK groups in history. As one of the longest-lived bands in the UK, Incognito’s inspiration came from Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Santana.

Besides climbing the music charts with 15 albums spanning decades, Incognito also supports human rights activism and humanitarian causes. Projects include the Hope Collective in 2005 with the single, “Give & Let Live” for the Asian Tsunami victims. They recorded, “Send Your Love” in 2015, to raise funds for victims of the Nepal earthquake. Both songs were huge successes and featured singers Chaka Kahn, Steve Winwood and Omar.

Members and Music

Members include leader Jean-Paul “Bluey,” Matt Cooper on keyboards, Vanessa Haynes, Mo Brandis, Natalie Williams, Maysa Leak, Tony Momrelle, Imaani and Katie Leone on vocals. Francis Hylton is on bass, with Francesco Mendolia on drums, Joao Caetano on percussion, Sid Gauld on trumpet, Jamie Anderson and Jim Hunt on sax and flute, Trevor Mires on trombone and Francisco Sales on guitar.

Special guests and collaborators include famous names such as Stevie Wonder (“Superstition,” “Isn’t She Lovely”), Ed Motta (“Grande Homem,” “Colombina”), George Benson (“Give Me the Night,” “Turn Your Love Around”), Al McKay (“Boogie Wonderland,” “Let’s Groove”) and Paul Weller (“Wishing on a Star,” “Early Morning Rain”).

Some popular studio albums include Jazz Funk, Positivity, Beneath the Surface, No Time Like the Future, Surreal, Amplified Soul and 2016’s In Search of Better Days. Popular singles are “Black Rain,” “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” “Morning Sun,” “Love Born in Flames,” “Crystal Walls” and “Everyday.”
