The movie,
Back to the Future
, would not have been well known if not for the hit single, The Power of Love, from Huey Lewis and the News. The song in particular earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song and was a No. 1 hit. Ever since the release of their album,
Sports
, the band's popularity exploded in 1983, reaching No. 1 and becoming a multi-platinum hit the year after. Tracks such as Jacob's Ladder and Stuck with You also became No. 1 hits. The group's fourth album,
Fore!
, in 1986, climbed up on the
Billboard
200 to take the No. 1 spot.

Huey Lewis and Sean Hopper were originally part of a band in the San Francisco Bay Area called Clover. Clover was active in the 1970s before they migrated over to the UK as part of the pub rock scene in the country. Lewis also worked with another band in the 1970s called Thin Lizzy, where he contributed the harmonica for Baby Drives Me Crazy and met his future team members from Clover's main competition called Soundhole. In 1978, Huey Lewis teamed up with Bill Gibson, Johnny Colla, Mario Cippolina and Sean Hopper to form a new band of their own through a contract with Phonogram Records. It wasn't until the release of the band's second album,

, that it began to be recognized for its talent. Huey Lewis and the News signed with BMG Rights Management to collaborate in the release of a new album with original songs dubbed
Weather
. This will be the first studio album to have been recorded years in the making.

'The band plays pop rock, blue-eyed soul and blues rock spread across their tracks. Its music gained a lot of traction when it started in the early 1980s, especially when the guitar riffs come into play and blares through the stage speakers. The way that Huey uses his voice is also very distinctive when coupled with strong vocals and soul.'
'The Heart of Rock & Roll and The Power of Love were nominated respectively for Record of the Year from the Grammy Awards in 1985 and 1986. In 1986, The Heart of Rock & Roll won in the category of Best Music Video, Long Form.'
'The band was once called Huey Lewis and the American Express, but its music largely went unnoticed until the band changed its name in the early 1980s.'
'Chris Hayes was lead guitarist from 1979-2001 and was replaced by Stef Burns. Mario Cipolinna worked on the bass side of the band in 1979 through 1995 and was replaced by John Pierce. Bill Hinds joined Huey Lewis and the News in 2001 to occupy the backing vocals and rhythm guitar position.'
