'The Houston Cougars baseball team competes in the NCAA's American Athletic Conference. The baseball program at the University of Houston first took the field in 1947. Bill Henry was a pitcher for the Houston Cougars baseball team in its inaugural season. Henry went on to become the first player from the team to play Major League Baseball. The Cougars joined the AAC in 2014 and have been the winners of two conference tournament championships since that time. The Cougars were also regular-season champions for the AAC three times. The seating capacity at Schroeder Park is 3,500 but the park can accommodate as many as 5,000 fans when areas along the outfield lines are used.

'The Houston Cougars began the 2020 regular season on Feb. 14 with the first home game of a three-game series against the Youngstown State Penguins. The three-month regular season for the Cougars ends on May 14 on the road against Northwestern State. The AAC tournament begins five days later and runs from May 19-23.'

'First baseman Ryan Hernandez is a first-year transfer to the Cougars from San Jacinto Junior College. Hernandez started the 2020 season on fire with five hits in 13 at-bats over the first three games of the year. Hernandez also hit two home runs and was credited with four RBIs in the first home series for the Cougars. Clay Aguilar was an AAC First Team selection as a sophomore pitcher in 2019. Aguilar appeared in 16 games for the Cougars a year ago and made 13 starts. He ended the season with a 6-4 record and an ERA of 3.06. Aguilar struck out 73 batters in the 67.2 innings he pitched. Brett Cain is a junior college transfer who played baseball in both 2018 and 2019 at Howard College. Cain hit .250 in only nine games a year ago and had three doubles. In 2018, Cain hit for a .357 average and eight home runs. He also tallied 11 doubles and 43 runs scored.'
