The Houston Astros play at Minute Maid Park, which opened in downtown Houston, Texas, in 2000, and has a seating capacity of 41,000. One of the most distinctive ballparks in Major League Baseball, Minute Maid Park is architecturally beautiful and ranks high on the best MLB stadium lists for its atmosphere, amenities, and overall fan experience. The ballpark was built around the original 1901 Union Station train depot, which now functions as the park’s gracious west end lobby and is available to rent for events. The park was visually blended with the train station using a classic-retro style of brick exterior, arched windows, and steel beams, and a replica steam locomotive above left field celebrates every Astros home run. Minute Maid Park features a retractable roof and a 115-foot-tall moving glass wall in left field that opens wide to give fans a true, open-air, nostalgic ballpark feel, when the weather allows. Nicknamed “The Juice Box”, the park has been well-kept since it was built and the most recent renovation in 2017 added a field-level seating area, along with new food and drink locations. In August 2024 additional renovations and capital repair investments were given the green light and are now in the planning stages, ensuring that Minute Maid Park will remain an exciting destination and much-loved ballpark for years to come.

The Houston Astros are part of the American League West along with the Los Angeles Angels, the Oakland Athletics, the Seattle Mariners, and the Texas Rangers. Historically the Astros biggest rivals have been the Rangers, a rivalry known as the Lone Star Series, but fans say that it’s really a dogfight between all the AL West teams these days.
The Houston Astros fans have had a lot to cheer about since the team entered the National League as an expansion team in 1962, but in the last 2 decades they’ve been rewarded with many exceptional performances and 2 Championship wins. Astros fans are a breed unto themselves and have been named as baseball’s best-dressed fans. Astros fashion is important to many fans and they show up to stand out, not only in the usual jerseys, hats, and team colors, but also in Astros logo business suits, sequin jerseys, full length Astros dresses, and lots of orange cowboy hats, boots, and accessories. Then there are the costumes, the orange wigs, and even full space suits in a nod to the Space City connection. It's a fantastic fan community and they deliver high energy and excitement to Minute Maid Park at every home game. The atmosphere is friendly, making an Astros home game a lot of fun for any baseball fan. Buy Houston Astros tickets on StubHub and get out to experience the excitement yourself.
Notable current Houston Astros players include left fielder Yordan Álvarez, an elite hitter who loves to hammer opposing bullpens, known for slugging power and an ability to drive in runs, landing him at No. 8 on the MLB Top 100 Players list for 2024; right fielder Kyle Tucker’s performance continues to impress in 2024, with an OPS score of .979; third baseman Alex Bregman is key on offense and defense, landing him at No. 44 on the current MLB Top 100 Players list; and on a team rich with pitching ability, starter Framer Valdez continues to be one of the Astros most effective, with consecutive quality starts that take the team deep into the game.
There are 11 Houston Astros in the National Baseball Hall of Fame as of 2023: Robin Roberts, Eddie Mathews, Joe Morgan, Leo Durocher, Nellie Fox, Don Sutton, Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Craig Biggio, Iván Rodríguez, and Jeff Bagwell.
The Houston Astros have one of the most unique home run celebrations in the Major Leagues. After every Astros homer a 15-foot-tall, 56-foot-long replica of an 1862 steam locomotive travels along a track 90-feet above left field, sounding its bell and whistles in celebration. It’s much more than just a cool gimmick though. Minute Maid Park’s architecture and the locomotive are a tribute to the railroad’s significance in Houston. The grand entrance lobby at the west end of the ballpark is the old Union Station railway building, which has been beautifully restored and provided the inspiration for the park’s design. Union Station opened in 1911 and was key to Houston’s growth and success, as the city’s infrastructure grew out from the original railway trading base.
