House of Blues Chicago - Complex

House of Blues Chicago Tickets

The first House of Blues was opened in 1992 by Isaac Tigrett and Dan Aykroyd. Tigrett had grown up listening to blues, rhythm and blues, jazz, gospel and rock and roll in Tennessee and wanted to share his love of the blues with others. Dan Aykroyd is a well-known actor who famously portrayed Elwood Blues in the movie

The Blues Brothers

. Each House of Blues venue celebrates Southern and African-American culture through presenting live music, Delta cuisine and folk art. Crazy Quilt stage curtains representing the Underground Railroad cover every stage at House of Blues venues. Each stage also has a box filled with Delta Mississippi mud underneath it, so the Spirit of the South is present under the artists' feet. The art collections at each House of Blues are almost completely composed of folk, outsider and self-taught artwork. Popular performers at the House of Blues include artists such as

Dance Gavin Dance

and

Grits and Biscuits
