Hed PE, also known as (hed) Planet Earth, are a rap-rock band from Huntington Beach, California, who coined the term G-punk to describe their own musical style. Their fusion of punk rock and gangsta rap is also influenced by heavy metal, funk, reggae and ska, resulting in a sound that's aggressive but also features catchy hooks. With nine studio albums, a live album and two compilation albums comprising their back catalog, the latest Hed PE tour dates promise the best of a considerable body of music, plus live on-stage swagger that adds to an atmosphere highly anticipated by fans.

'Hed PE's background'

'Hed PE formed around 1994, when they were originally just called Hed, representing higher education. Founding member, vocalist Jared Gomes (aka Jahred), guitarist Wes Geer and other Southern California musicians came together to play local venues, where their energetic performances soon got the attention of rock and rap fans alike. Adding PE (which stands for Planet Earth) to their name for legal reasons, the band self-financed and released their first EP, Church of Realities. Hed PE were signed to the rap label Jive Records in 1997, and soon after released their eponymous debut album. The lineup of Hed PE has changed numerous times since its founding, although Gomes remains as lead singer.'

'Hed PE's career milestones'

'

Hed PE's second album, Broke, was released in 2000 and reached No. 63 on the Billboard 200. The stand-out single, Bartender, peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No. 27 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. A second single, Killing Time, was featured on the soundtrack of the movie 3000 Miles to Graceland. In 2001, Hed PE performed on the Ozzfest tour, exposing their music to a much wider audience than ever before.

Hed PE's third album, Blackout, came out in the spring of 2003 and proved to be the band's biggest chart success to date. It reached No. 33 on the Billboard 200, and the title track peaked at No. 21 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No. 32 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.

In 2004, having moved over to an independent label, Hed PE released Only in Amerika, which got to No. 20 on the Top Independent Albums chart. A fifth studio album, Back 2 Base X, was written around the theme of returning to the basics of rock music. It was released mid-2006, around the same time that their old label put out a Best Of compilation. Back 2 Base X reached No. 12 on the Independent Albums chart, and the follow-up, 2007's Insomnia, reached No. 16.

Hed PE continued their pattern of steadily releasing records, offering Flat Bill Hat in 2007, and in 2008 their first live album, The D.I.Y. Guys. The new single Renegade came out later that year. In early 2009, Hed PE released their seventh studio album, New World Orphans, offering their fans three different versions with distinct sets of bonus tracks. In 2010 they released Truth Rising, and in 2014 the album Evolution and single One More Body.
