Headliners Music Hall History

The building that today houses Headliners Music Hall was originally the cafeteria for a bottling plant, and its walls still bare murals dating to 1939. The room was also used during the Prohibition as a rehearsal space for musicians playing at nearby hotels.

Headliners Music Hall Events

The lineup for Headliners Music Hall mostly features rock, metal, hip-hop, indie and alternative bands and singers. Past performers of note include Kings of Leon, Ice Cube, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, The White Stripes and Patti Smith. The venue has also hosted such shows as The Music of Jesus Christ Superstar and A Salute to the Music of Prince.

Headliners Music Hall Seating Layout

Most shows at Headliners Music Hall are standing room only. The majority are only for patrons aged 18 and older, although some shows are open to all ages. The intimate venue has a relatively small stage and audience members are able to see performers up close. Occasionally chairs are available around the perimeter of the hall on a first come, first served basis. The venue has a full bar but does not serve food. However, there are often food trucks parked outside the venue.

Performing arts venues in Louisville include the Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Louisville Palace and the downtown Kentucky Center, which presents plays and concerts and is home to the Louisville Ballet, Louisville Orchestra and Kentucky Opera. Sports fans might want to check the college basketball schedule at Freedom Hall or catch a college football game at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

Together with the University of Louisville, Headliners Music Hall participates in a program to recycle all of its cans and bottles. The venue contributes 100 percent of the proceeds from these efforts toward scholarships and programs that benefit the university's students.
