This interesting and elegant venue was once the former Dye House and sits within Saxapahaw's Historic Cotton Mill. Transformed from a dark, bleak space, the Haw River Ballroom is now brightly lit with great acoustics that easily fill the space with music. After 9/11, a local couple and their friend decided to purchase the old mill and renovate it. Formerly from this area, they wanted to show residents what they love about their town. Their vision was to create a welcoming space where they could put on concerts and host weddings and even lectures. Nearly everything is made from salvaged materials, including the iconic iron-and-wood benches, which hail from a Myrtle Beach amusement park.

Each week, the Haw River Ballroom hosts four to five events. Although plenty of artists perform under this roof, other special events are also featured on a weekly basis, including Movies at the Mill. In the past, artists such as the Canadian folk band The Be Good Tanyas have performed, as well as Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard. The venue is also known for putting on events that support various causes, including benefit concerts to support civil rights. Being so close to the University of North Carolina, the ballroom also hosts classes and readings on Tuesday nights.

The venue itself offers three levels, complete with a stunning riverside deck. Indoors, there is a full-service stage and sound system, as well as a concessions bar and coffee shop. With seating capacity around 700, the ballroom is highly intimate and is known as a must attend by local concert enthusiasts. Many consider the venue's combination of historic architecture and modern flair to be a work of art. In addition, this venue powers its location by using geothermal and solar power. Although the majority of guests stand, there is some seating on the balcony.
