Hari Kondabolu tour dates

Hari Kondabolu is a stand-up comedian who covers topics that he believes affects all people. He centers on social issues like racism and social identity but doesn't necessarily want to be called a political comedian. His hilarious yet sometimes dark takes on American society frequently have audiences laughing out loud.

In addition to his own stand-up comedy tours, Hari has also performed on major late night TV shows, including Conan and Jimmy Kimmel Live. His fans appreciate the down-to-earth comedic style of a Hari Kondabolu tour, which brings in elements from his unique history as the child of well-educated immigrants and experience as an activist.

Hari Kondabolu's background

Hari and his brother Ashok, who is a member of the rap group Das Racist, were raised by their Indian immigrant parents in Queens. Hari says that his mother is the reason he has such a great sense of humor. In high school, Hari was inspired to try comedy by comedian Margaret Cho. She was the first Asian-American comedian he saw on television.

After studying at Bowdoin and Wesleyan Colleges and continuing his love of comedy, Hari also got involved in activism, eventually working as a labor organizer helping immigrants in Seattle, WA. It was there in Seattle that his stand-up career also started to take off, launching him to where he is today.

Hari Kondabolu's personal life

Hari, a practicing Hindu, currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, though he spends a bit of time in Maine each year. In addition to stand-up comedy and television appearances, he is a devoted activist who has used his online popularity to start hashtag campaigns to raise awareness for political issues.

Hari took a year off from stand-up comedy in 2007 to obtain a master's degree in human rights from the London School of Economics.

Hari Kondabolu's career milestones

In 2007, Hari's short film Manoj played in several comedy film festivals. He was both the writer and the star of the film, playing both an Indian comedian, Manoj, who uses stereotypes of Indians in his act, and an Indian-American guy who doesn't appreciate that.

Kondabolu also wrote and starred in a highly anticipated documentary called The Problem With Apu in 2017. It focuses on how the portrayal of South Asians in the media affects real people. Interest in the topic thrust him even further into the comedic spotlight.

Bill de Blasio, the mayor of New York City, declared that October 22, 2017 was Hari Kondabolu Day to recognize the comedian for his work, which both raises awareness about social issues and provides entertainment.
