Gruene Hall
'
Built in 1878, Gruene Hall claims the title as the oldest continually running dance hall in the state. The music venue gets its name from Henry (Heinrich) D. Gruene, who was responsible for bringing the hall to the small town of Gruene, which is now part of the New Braunfels. Gruene Hall is an intimate space, at 6,000 square feet, but it has a large outdoor beer garden. The design elements that it was built with still remain. It has a high-pitched tin roof, side flaps that can be opened up to let fresh air in, a full bar and a small stage up front. Musical giants like
Willie Nelson
,
George Strait
and
Lyle Lovett
have played sets here. It continues to host performers, seven days a week. You can get your Gruene Hall tickets at StubHub.
''Gruene Hall seating depends on the show. Some Gruene Hall events and performances call for concert seating whereas others accommodate guests on a standing room basis. There is always limited seating near the bar and outside, so be sure to get there early if this is important to you.'
'Unless otherwise noted in the description of the show, children are welcome at the music hall. For any shows that require advance purchase, regular tickets must be purchased for children.'
'Snacks, such as chips, nuts and dried sausage, are sold at the hall. There is a wide selection of drinks. Beer is sold by the bottle, and wine is sold by the glass. In addition, water and soft drinks are available.'
'A few nearby restaurants are Mozie's, Cantina Del Rio, and Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar. Mozie's serves American classics and has a full bar. Cantina Del Rio offers some south of the border dishes along with a variety of margaritas. Gristmill, which has burgers, salads, steaks, chicken and fish on its menu, is housed in an old cotton gin on the Guadalupe River.'
'With its historic feel, Gruene is able to attract many tourists. Many of its buildings are part of the National Register of Historic Places, including the Gruene Family Home. This manor was built in 1872 and is now open as a bed and breakfast. A stroll through town gives you nice views of the river and the historic water tower. There are many small boutiques to look through, and if you have time, consider taking a float trip down the river.'
