After signing with Motown Records, the Pips recorded the smash hit I Heard It Through the Grapevine as well as The End of Our Road, If I Were Your Woman, I Don't Want to Do Wrong and more. The group switched to Buddah Records in 1973 and achieved its greatest sustained success with Midnight Train to Georgia, I've Got to Use My Imagination, Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me and On and On, all of which reached the top five on the US chart.
