The Gateway Dirt Nationals is one of the most important indoor stock car racing events of the year. It has become an annual racing tradition since the inaugural event was first held in the city of St. Louis. Featuring some of the biggest names in dirt and stock car racing, including Scott Bloomquist, Billy Moyer, Darrel Lanigan and Bobby Pierce, the Gateway Dirt Nationals provides thrilling finishes and high-octane action. With the growing popularity of dirt racing, even well-known NASCAR drivers, including Ryan Newman, Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson, sometimes participate in the race. The event is separated into three divisions — Open Wheel Modifieds, Midgets and Super Late Models, all of which feature different vehicles and regulations. The racers can participate in and qualify for as many of the divisions as they want. If you want to experience the thrill of 800-horespower race cars competing on a dirt track, don't miss this event. Purchase Gateway Dirt Nationals tickets at StubHub.
To participate in the Open Wheel Modified and Midget divisions, the racers must be invited by the event organizers for the year. However, Super Late Model is open to all potential competitors who want to register. A total of 150 racers can enter the event. The racers must adhere to the strict guidelines regarding car dimensions and parts to participate.
The Gateway Dirt Nationals takes place each year right before Christmas. It is scheduled for Dec. 17–19, 2020, and Dec. 2–4, 2021. Races run from morning to night over a three-day period. The first two days feature hot laps, qualifying, heat races and some main races (A-main, B-main and C-main). The third day features hot laps, last chance qualifying and the final main races of the event. A more detailed schedule should be announced closer to the start of the event. Fans can expect the Gateway Dirt Nationals to remain in St. Louis until at least 2021.
The
Dome at America’s Center
is a multipurpose arena in St. Louis. It features a temporary track laid down specifically for the race. The track is approximately a fifth-mile long with semi-banked oval on the floor. Located right next to the Mississippi River, the stadium has a seating capacity of 67,000, though some sections may be closed for the event. The Gateway Dirt Nationals is billed as the largest indoor stock car event since the 1982 National Dirt Racing Association competition at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich..
Tickets go for a minimum $25 on Thursday and Friday and $35 on Saturday. Children under the age of two are not required to have a ticket for entry. If you want to upgrade your ticket to a pit pass at the venue, you will need to pay an additional $20 per ticket for each day. Most seats are located right next to the track. The 300 and 400 sections, located further away from the track, will only be opened up if there is extra demand for seating.
