'The Fresno State Bulldogs are the men’s basketball team representing California State University, Fresno. The Division I team plays in the Mountain West Conference. The team’s most notable players of the 2019-20 season include Jarred Hyder, Deshon Taylor, Nate Grimes and Noah Blackwell. One notable Bulldog alum is NBA star Paul George, who played at Fresno State for two seasons from 2008-2010. Near the end of his long coaching career, Jerry Tarkanian coached the Bulldogs from 1995-2002, leading the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances and advancing to the second round of the 2001 tournament. Completing his first season at Fresno State in 2018-2019, Justin Huston is the basketball team’s 21st head coach in its history. During his first season, Hutson, who is known as one of the most renowned recruiters of the Mountain West conference, led the team to a 23-9 record overall and a 13-5 conference record. Fresno State advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament in 1982, losing to
Georgetown
in that round after beating
West Virginia
in the previous round. The Bulldogs' biggest accomplishment to date, though, was winning the National Invitation Tournament title in 1983.

Head coach Justin Hutson has been at the helm of the Bulldogs since April of 2018. After an excellent first season, he won the 2018-19 Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year award, which is presented every year to the top first-year coach in Division I college basketball. He previously served as a Division I assistant coach at
San Diego State
in two stints from 2006-2011 and again from 2013-2018. Hutson was considered the best recruiting assistant on the West Coast in 2013 and was listed as a top up-and-coming recruiter in 2014 by ESPN. Before that, Hutson was an assistant coach at CSU Bakersfield, Cal Poly and
UNLV
. During his time at San Diego State University, the Aztecs won the first 20 games of the 2010-2011 season. Hutson was part of the coaching staff that led the team to a Sweet Sixteen NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011 and set a school record of 34 wins that same year. The team closed out that season ranked No. 6 nationally. Also during his collegiate coaching career, Hutson won two NCAA Division II championships while at
CSU Bakersfield
. The Roadrunners went 33-0 in the 1992-1993 season and followed up with a 27-6 record in 1993-1994.
