Whether you're a lifelong fan or a newcomer to the world of motorsports, a live Formula One race offers an unforgettable experience that will bring you to the edge of your seat and make the hair stand up on the back of your neck! Commonly known as F1, this global championship is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). Grand Prix races are held on purpose-built tracks in countries around the globe each season. Formula One began as a world championship racing competition in the United Kingdom in 1950 and has grown into the world’s most prestigious and glamorous motorsport. It’s also the most expensive motorsport competition. F1 race cars are high performance, aerodynamic wonders of advanced technology and specialized engineering that typically cost between $10 million to $20 million USD each with average speeds of 210-220 mph. Drivers on the track are much like fighter pilots, battling the extreme g-force generated by the aerodynamic front and back wings of the cars, which allow for high cornering speeds. F1 is a team event and there’s a point system for the drivers and for the team (car constructor). The popularity of Formula One has experienced a big jump in recent years thanks in part to a Netflix show called Formula 1: Drive to Survive that began airing in 2019. But no show or televised race can begin to compare to the sheer exhilaration and excitement of watching a Grand Prix live. You can find tickets for F1 races happening around the world on StubHub.

The name Formula One is specific to two things. The “Formula” part of the name refers to the international set of rules that these single-seat, open-wheel cars must comply with. The rules apply to the car design, the engine size, the components used, and more, which all competitors must strictly adhere to. The “One” part of the name denotes performance level and identifies that this is the premier racing formula and the top tier racing category in the FIA, with the fastest and most technologically advanced cars. There are also F2, and F3 international single-seater racing championships which act as feeder championships for future F1 talent.
Formula One races are held across the globe each season and in 2024 there are 24 races scheduled across 5 continents - a record number of races for the F1 calendar. With 24 races happening in beautiful places around the world, F1 also offers fans a fantastic opportunity to travel and experience Grand Prix races in different countries. An F1 season is made up of a series of races, known as Grand Prix races. Grand Prix races are held in incredible locations in countries around the world, on purpose-built circuits, closed streets, or a hybrid mix of both. A points system is used to determine two annual World Championships, one for drivers and one for the constructors (the teams). The first to cross the finish line at each Grand Prix wins. Different point values are awarded for each of the top 10 finishing positions and the goal is to finish as high as possible in each race throughout the year. Drivers compete for the F1 Drivers’ Championship, while the teams work to win the F1 Constructors’ Championship. At the season finale, the individual driver and team with the most points are named Champions for that year. If there is a tie, the teams and drivers with the most wins during the season determines who takes home the championship trophy.
You haven’t truly heard engines roar until you’ve been track side at a Formula 1 race. It’s an amazing spectacle showcasing the fastest and most advanced racing cars on the planet. Nothing you’ve seen on TV prepares you for the speed and scale of being at a race live! Going to an F1 race is always exciting and fun, whether it’s your first time or your thirty-first time, and there’s a lot more to a race weekend than just the Sunday circuit showdown. The standard Formula 1 weekend unfolds over 3 days, usually Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday is a practice and race preparation day so teams can check on their cars’ set up. Saturday gives an additional practice opportunity, followed by a 3-stage qualifying session to assign race positions on the track for race day. Sunday is the actual Grand Prix race day with drivers looking to take the checkered flag and rack up points. There's a family-friendly crowd atmosphere with a lot to see and do at an F1 race, so go early and enjoy it all.
A Formula 1 race generally lasts about 90 minutes though some races may take longer due to Safety Car periods that slow the field down, or a red flag that halts the racing action. Every Grand Prix race will vary in the number of laps it takes to complete, as the races are based on specific distances. The minimum length of a Grand Prix is 190 miles (305 km), so each circuit has a different number of laps to complete, in order to ensure that every race, on every track, is roughly the same length. The one exception to the rule is the Monaco Grand Prix, which has a minimum race distance of 160 miles (257 km). Monaco is the smallest circuit on the schedule with the most laps of any race, making racing speeds slower, so distance was adjusted. Even though each race circuit has a scheduled number of laps, they also have a 2-hour time limit to complete the race. If the track time reaches 2-hours, the Grand Prix then finishes at the end of the next lap. Only track time is counted. Any time that the race is halted for a red flag does not count but there is a 3-hour total window of time in which to complete the 2-hours of racing.
Every venue is different, but incredible racing action is guaranteed from wherever you decide to sit for a Formula 1 Grand Prix. With multiple vantage points and ticket types available, choosing can feel difficult. The truth is, there’s a lot of personal preference involved when it comes to the “best” vantage point for a Grand Prix race. Some people love to watch the fastest straightaways on the track, some prefer to watch the hairpin turns, or biggest braking zones. Others prefer to wander all weekend with a general admission ticket. A seat near the pit stops is always interesting and you get a good look at all the cars in the pits at the end of the race, including the winning car and driver. Different grandstands will focus on different track sections, and higher up in the grandstands usually offers the better view. There are a lot of fantastic options available for every preference, from general admission or lawn seats to full VIP packages, specialty suites, and club suites. If you’re looking to treat yourself or someone else to a premium racing experience unlike any other, consider the Paddock Club. The F1 Paddock Club offers unrivalled views of the racetrack and gives you a front-row seat to all the action during the weekend, from the intensity of pre-race preparations to the fun of post-race celebrations. Go behind the scenes and into the pit with track tours, meet your favorite drivers, and watch key racing strategies unfold. Enjoy world-class cuisine, an open bar and legendary F1 hospitality. Best of all, you’ll get priority access to the post-race Podium Celebration, one of the most exclusive moments of any Grand Prix race weekend. The F1 Paddock Club is the ultimate F1 experience, operated by Formula One, and available for all Grand Prix races.
