The Festival at Sandpoint has been an annual tradition for more than three decades. For eight nights, families, couples and music lovers of all ages gather under the stars at Memorial Field on the beautiful shores of Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint, Idaho, to listen to an eclectic range of jazz, classical, folk, blues, world and pop music.
In this relaxed environment, you can sit back and listen to the music or kick off your shoes to dance in any of the designated dancing areas. Bring your cooler for a picnic or enjoy food and drink from any of the local vendors on “Festival Street.” Whether you lay back on a blanket and listen to the music while looking at the stars or get comfortable in a lawn chair, this intimate setting will remind you what live music is all about.
The Festival at Sandpoint began in 1983, as a way to make great music available to everyone in the surrounding community and region. Since then, the festival has grown and now runs for eight nights and includes internationally recognized top musical talent including Grammy Award winners. Despite its growth, the event maintains its small and intimate nature where it feels as though the artists are performing a special concert for you, right in your own backyard.
One night is always reserved for the “Family Concert” featuring the Festival Community Orchestra. This event is a family favorite with musical selections that appeal to young and old alike. Festivities begin before the concert, where kids can go to an instrument “petting zoo” and try out real instruments, or they can go to a real petting zoo, ride ponies, enjoy face painting and play games. Parents who need a break can find respite at the Parent’s Corner for mini massages.
The Festival at Sandpoint appeals to local audiences and makes a great destination for those looking for great music in an intimate setting. The artists perform for eight nights, but it only happens once a year. Check out the festival schedule and get your tickets at StubHub.
Three editions of The 100 Best Small Arts Towns in America feature the Festival at Sandpoint as one of the region’s more important art events.
The Festival at Sandpoint’s first season featured three concerts by the Spokane Symphony Orchestra.
Aside from almost two million dollars in revenue for the local economy as reported by the University of Idaho, this festival contributes to the local community through educational missions like the Fifth Grade Music Outreach program, which began in 1999.
