MLS Cup
final, where it lost 2-1 to the
Colorado Rapids
. FC Dallas won the 2016 MLS Supporters’ Shield for the best overall league record that season. It is also a two-time winner of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, the country’s longest-running soccer tournament, scoring victories in 1997 and 2016. Jason Kreis, who played for the club between 1996 and 2004, is the all-time leading scorer with 91 goals and 65 assists in regular-season play. 'FC Dallas shares a state rivalry with the fellow Texas club the Houston Dynamo. Since 2006, this Texas rivalry, known as the Texas Derby, acknowledges the season’s winner each year with a replica of an 18th-century mountain howitzer cannon named El Capitan. The derby is primarily determined by an annual series in the MLS regular season. However, the clubs have also met in the MLS Cup playoffs and the US Open Cup on several occasions. The series is tightly contested each year. In 2017, Dallas and Houston tied during each of their three matchups.'
'Luchi Gonzalez was named the seventh head coach in FC Dallas history on December 16th, 2018. It is his first head coaching experience of a major club, though he has a long history with the sport. Between 2012 and 2018, he was the Academy Director for FC Dallas and in 2016, he led the U-16 team to its second straight US Soccer Development Academy National Championship.
